Shivamogga’s Unriddle Technologies Transforms Hospital Paperwork with DScribe, Digitising 16 Lakh Sheets in 10 Months

In a city famed for education and agriculture, Shivamogga’s own Unriddle Technologies is quietly revolutionising hospital workflows. Founded by Akshay V Nayak and Karthik B S, the startup built DScribe, a tablet-and-stylus documentation tool that lets medical staff write naturally while instantly digitising notes.

Akshay and Karthik arrived at their idea after witnessing overcrowded nurses’ stations piled with files. “Nurses were spending more time shuffling paper than caring for patients,” Akshay recalls. Their survey across Karnataka hospitals revealed a shared frustration: complex Western electronic medical record systems that slowed down healthcare rather than speeding it up.

DScribe bridges this gap by offering a simple interface optimised for Indian hospitals. Doctors and nurses write directly on tablets as they would on paper, and the system automatically organises records for instant access across departments. Audit trails ensure compliance, and a new AI-powered discharge summary module drafts summaries in minutes, freeing clinicians from hours of paperwork.

Since its beta launch, DScribe has digitised over 16 lakh paper sheets across 15 hospitals in Shivamogga, Davanagere, Bengaluru, Chitradurga and Haveri. Word of mouth drove rapid adoption, and the startup recorded a gross revenue of ₹65 lakhs within its first 10 months of operation.

The impact goes beyond convenience. Hospitals report reduced patient wait times, lower administrative costs and improved coordination between departments—all while cutting down on paper consumption. “Hospitals resist digital not because they don’t want it, but because most solutions make their jobs harder,” explains Karthik. “Our mission is to make going digital so seamless that hospitals can’t imagine going back to paper.”

Unriddle’s journey was nurtured at the Anvesana Innovation and Entrepreneurial Forum at PES College, Shivamogga. The not-for-profit incubator provided mentorship, workspace and a network in the Malnad region, helping Akshay and Karthik turn their vision into a reality.

Building on DScribe’s early success, Unriddle is developing an outpatient (OPD) module to streamline patient visits, and plans to expand into other Indian cities. International markets facing similar digital adoption hurdles are also on their radar, signalling a global ambition for the Shivamogga startup.

With its simple design, focus on user experience and early traction, Unriddle Technologies is poised to redefine hospital documentation across India—and soon, beyond.
