In a bold move that signals the next era of personalized learning, Mrinal Mohit, former India CEO of Byju’s, has launched Uprio in October 2025. Backed by his decade-long experience steering India’s largest edtech unicorn, Mohit is addressing a long-standing challenge in the Indian school system: large classrooms and misaligned tuition that leave individual student gaps unfilled.
Uprio operates as an AI-powered after-school supplement, aligning every lesson to the student’s exact school curriculum. Each class groups up to six students from the same school and grade, ensuring tutors can tailor explanations and drills precisely where they matter most. Real-time AI analytics continuously identify learning gaps, instantly adapting lesson plans and practice exercises to cement understanding before misconceptions become entrenched.
The Bengaluru-based startup has already partnered with 57 schools across Bengaluru and Delhi. Driven by a monthly subscription model with no lock-ins, Uprio boasts exceptional renewal rates among its inaugural cohorts—an early testament to its efficacy and student satisfaction. Mohit envisions expanding to 100 schools by mid-2026, scaling both northward to non-metro markets and deeper into existing cities, where demand for aligned, outcome-driven tuition is strongest.
This launch comes as AI-led tutoring startups regain investor momentum. In the wake of Byju’s challenges, fresh capital is flowing into ventures that promise measurable learning outcomes. Recent funding rounds include Arivihan’s $4.17 million raise from Prosus and Accel, and Stimuler AI’s $3.7 million backing from Lightspeed. Uprio’s strong early performance positions it well to attract its own strategic partners as it scales.
Mohit’s vision extends beyond test-prep. Uprio incorporates “Huddle Rooms” for private 1:1 assistance, anonymous question boards to empower shy learners, and AI-driven dashboards so parents can track progress at a glance. By complementing rather than competing with schools, Uprio aims to create a unified learning ecosystem where classroom instruction and after-school guidance reinforce one another.
For schools, Uprio offers a plug-and-play partnership: dedicated batches scheduled around existing timetables, seamless platform integration, and data-driven insights into overall class performance. For parents, it delivers the confidence that each rupee spent on tuition directly addresses their child’s unique challenges, without the inefficiencies of traditional group coaching.
With its human-centred AI and founder pedigree, Uprio represents a compelling model for EdTech 2.0 in India. As Mohit aptly puts it, “Education should support every school child, not pull them into a parallel learning track.” If Uprio’s early traction and renewal rates are any indicator, this AI-led approach may well redefine supplementary education in India’s rapidly evolving landscape.
